How-to guide
How to remove vocals in GarageBand vs VocalSplit
GarageBand is free on every Mac and iPhone but has no vocal-separation feature. VocalSplit fills that gap and gives GarageBand users the same clean stems Logic Pro users get from Stem Splitter — without the Logic upgrade.
For GarageBand users, VocalSplit is effectively the stem separator Apple left out of the free version of GarageBand. The workflow takes less than a minute end-to-end.
Step-by-step
- Export your track from GarageBand. Share then Export Song to Disk then AIFF or WAV. Or use an existing song file from your library.
- Open vocalsplit.io. Any browser — Safari is fine.
- Upload the file. Drag it onto the upload area.
- Pay $0.99 with Apple Pay. Touch ID on Mac, Face ID on iPhone.
- Import both stems back into GarageBand. Drag the downloaded WAV files into your GarageBand project as new tracks. They line up automatically.
Tips for better results
- GarageBand on iPad is powerful for singing over a backing track — pair it with VocalSplit for instant practice setups.
- For more advanced production, upgrade to Logic Pro's Stem Splitter (included) for four stems instead of two.
- Audio Unit plugins that wrap Spleeter also work inside GarageBand but are fiddly to install.
