FAQ
Everything about AI vocal separation
How VocalSplit works, what you get back, how it compares to other tools, and everything about pricing, formats and privacy.
Getting started
How do I remove vocals from a song?+
Upload your audio file to VocalSplit.io. The AI analyses the spectrogram, separates vocals from the instrumental, and returns two lossless WAV stems — typically in under 15 seconds. No software to install and no subscription. First split is $0.99, or buy 10 for $4.99.
What file formats does VocalSplit support?+
MP3, WAV, FLAC, M4A, AIFF, OGG and Opus — up to 100MB per file. Output is always 24-bit lossless WAV so the stems drop into any DAW without quality loss.
How long does a vocal split take?+
Most tracks split in under 15 seconds. Longer songs or lossless sources like WAV and FLAC can take closer to 30 seconds. Batch uploads of up to 10 files are processed in parallel.
What exactly do I get back after a split?+
Two stems per split — a vocals stem and an instrumental stem — both as 24-bit WAV files in a single zip download. Files stay available for 24 hours after processing and are also emailed to you.
Do I need an account to use VocalSplit?+
No pre-registration. An account is created automatically the first time you purchase credits — pay with your card, and we email you a magic sign-in link. No passwords to remember.
Karaoke, acapellas & practice tracks
How do I make a karaoke version of a song?+
Upload the song to VocalSplit and download the instrumental stem — that is your karaoke track. The vocals are removed cleanly, leaving the backing music intact, without the hollow "center-cancellation" artefacts older tools produce.
How do I extract an acapella from a song?+
Upload the full track and download the vocals stem. You get an isolated acapella with the instrumental removed — ready for remixing, study or looping. Most songs produce a usable acapella in under 15 seconds.
Can I isolate backing vocals or just lead vocals?+
VocalSplit currently separates the full vocal layer (lead + backing + harmonies) as one stem. Lead-vs-backing separation is on the roadmap — follow vocalsplit.io for updates.
Can I use VocalSplit to practice singing along to a song?+
Yes. Download the instrumental stem to sing along without the original vocalist, or download the vocals stem to isolate their melody and phrasing for study. Vocal coaches and students use stem separation for ear training and technique work.
Quality & comparison
How does AI vocal separation actually work?+
A neural network trained on thousands of songs learns to identify vocal frequencies versus instrumental frequencies in the spectrogram of a mix. VocalSplit runs your full track through this model and reconstructs each stem at 24-bit WAV quality.
How is VocalSplit different from LALAL.AI or Moises?+
VocalSplit has no subscription — you pay per split starting at $0.99, credits never expire, and they work across DrumSplit and every MusicSplit tool. LALAL.AI and Moises both require monthly plans. VocalSplit outputs lossless 24-bit WAV on every split, not a lossy preview.
How does VocalSplit compare to Spleeter and Demucs?+
Spleeter (Deezer) and Demucs (Meta) are open-source separation libraries — great if you are comfortable with Python and have a GPU. VocalSplit runs a production-grade separator on managed GPUs, returns 24-bit WAV without any setup, and handles batch jobs for $0.99 per song.
Is VocalSplit better than Audacity's vocal remover?+
Yes. Audacity's vocal remover uses center-channel cancellation — it inverts the stereo channels, which only works if the vocal is perfectly centered and destroys anything else that is centered (kick, snare, bass). VocalSplit uses a neural separator that actually identifies vocal frequencies, producing a cleaner result on any modern recording.
Does VocalSplit work well on rap, EDM, classical and live recordings?+
Yes for rap, hip-hop, pop, rock, EDM and most modern productions — the model was trained on thousands of songs across genres. Classical choral works and live recordings with heavy crowd noise are harder cases; results vary but most are usable for practice and study.
Files, privacy & legal
What is the maximum file size I can upload?+
100MB per file. That comfortably covers most songs up to about 60 minutes in MP3, or about 10 minutes in lossless WAV. For anything larger, split the file locally first.
What happens to my files after processing?+
Your uploaded audio and output stems are stored for 24 hours so you can re-download them, then permanently deleted. We do not use your audio to train models. See the full privacy policy.
Is it legal to remove vocals from copyrighted songs?+
Personal use — practice, study, private remixes — is generally permitted in most jurisdictions. Publishing or monetising separated stems from copyrighted material requires a license from the rights holders. VocalSplit is a tool; you are responsible for how you use the output.
Can I use separated vocals in commercial projects?+
You retain full rights to the audio you process, but the underlying song's copyright still applies. If you are releasing a remix or using a stem commercially, clear it with the rights holders first.
How do I remove vocals from a YouTube video?+
Extract the audio from the video first (for example with a yt-dlp-based tool) and upload the MP3 or WAV to VocalSplit. Note that downloading copyrighted YouTube content beyond personal use may violate YouTube's Terms of Service and copyright law.
Pricing, credits & batch
Is there a subscription or monthly fee?+
No. VocalSplit is pay-as-you-go: $0.99 for one split, $4.99 for 10 splits ($0.50 each), or $14.99 for 50 splits ($0.30 each). Credits never expire and work across all MusicSplit tools.
Can I use my credits on DrumSplit or other MusicSplit tools?+
Yes. Credits are shared across VocalSplit, DrumSplit and every future MusicSplit tool. Buy once, use anywhere.
Can I process multiple songs at once?+
Yes. VocalSplit supports batch processing — drop up to 10 files at once and they are separated in parallel. One credit per song.
Do you offer an API?+
A REST API for developers is in the works and will mirror DrumSplit's API design (async processing, status polling, programmatic stem downloads). If you need early access, contact support from the homepage.
What payment methods do you accept?+
All major credit and debit cards via Stripe, including Apple Pay and Google Pay at checkout.
Can I get a refund if the separation fails?+
If a split fails or the output is unusable, contact support with the split ID and we will refund the credit. We cannot guarantee perfect separation on every song — especially heavily processed or unusual mixes — so we recommend starting with a single-split purchase before buying a pack.
